Secret Situation is a self portrait and performative sculpture I did in 2009 about my detached relationship with my father. In this piece, my face is cast into a block of ice. Throughout the duration of the show, the sculpture melts, and a secret is revealed about me to the public. A decade ago, a snippet of my father’s income tax return filing was embedded and revealed to show him claiming me as his only dependent daughter.

A re-generation and re-creation of a performative sculpture of a self portrait called Secret Situation I did in 2009 about my detached relationship with my father, where my face is cast into a block of ice. Throughout the duration of the show, the sculpture melts, and a secret is revealed about the artist. A decade ago, a snippet of my father’s income tax return filing was embedded and revealed. In the regeneration of this piece, I re-examine my last 14 years of relationship with my father and the blockages I’ve been grappling with as a new secret is revealed to the public.
